The research group Cardiovascular, haemostaseological and molecular Sports Medicine deals with research tasks in the area of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart diseases (CHD), arteriosclerosis and heart failure, for example. Thereby, it investigates the influence of acute physical activity up to athletic training on the levels of application as well as base. Furthermore, contents on the interdisciplinary basic level are elaborated if these investigates provide information on pathologies, e.g. flow measurements of heart and large vessels. The aim of this investigation is to reveal basic mechanisms in the pathophysiology of the diseases concerned and to develop optimised treatment strategies by means of physical activity. This serves to improve the quality of life of the patients affected, to revise diagnostics in general and, ideally, to directly avoid the occurrence of the disease.

Specific research focus:

  • Chronic heart failure and influence of a systematised physical training

  • Pathophysiology of exercise limitation with systolic and diastolic heart failure

  • Left ventricular hypertrophy

  • Delimitation between physiological hypertrophy vs. remodeling

  • Studies on biomarkers in sports cardiology

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics for biomedical applications
